A Day Behind the Scenes!

25 Jun

It was another fun day at Penn Museum Summer Camp! As always, campers participated in interesting, fun crafts in preparation for the performance on Friday! Although details for the show are a surprise, campers are eager to present their creative creations to family and friends. In addition to crafts, one of the highlights of the day included a “Behind the Scenes” presentation from several employees here at Penn Museum. In the presentation, the presenters showed the campers precious, old artifacts from places all over the world, including Alaska, North Dakota (from Native Americans), New Guinea, Democratic Republic of Congo, Panama, and Africa! This presentation was especially unique for the children, because this opportunity is not available for the public at Penn Museum. What a treat! Some pieces included jewelry, hats, and clothing, which fit in perfectly with the theme of the week, Worn and Adorn. As the week goes on, campers are learning that the tattoos, jewelry, and other pieces that native people wore were essential to defining who they were, and what culture they belonged to.
